Is HFM Safe? Operator, Licenses and Fund Segregation Checked Against Official Sources

Is HFM safe? Do the different entities and licenses leave you unsure which one applies to you?

HFM has several entities in its group under different regulators, and the protection you get depends on which entity holds your account. The official pages also describe segregated client funds and how negative balances are handled.

This article sorts out what the official pages state and what you should check on the registration screen.

In short: HFM's safety depends on first confirming which entity applies to you

  • The group has entities in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the UK, South Africa, Seychelles and Kenya
  • The official legal information lists HF Markets (SV) Ltd (registered in SVG, 22747 IBC 2015)
  • The official pages state that client funds are held separately from company funds and are not used to pay the company's creditors
  • The official pages state that a negative balance is automatically reset to zero
  • Which entity holds a Japan-resident account, and whether a compensation scheme applies, should be confirmed on the registration screen and in the terms
This article reflects what we checked on the official HFM "Regulatory Environment" and "Security of Funds" pages on October 22, 2026. Conditions change, so make your final check on the official site.

HFM's operating entities and licenses

HFM's official legal information lists HF Markets (SV) Ltd. It is an International Business Company (IBC) registered in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, with registration number 22747 IBC 2015.

Checked on October 22, 2026. The official pages do not state which entity holds a Japan-resident account.
Entity / regionWhat the official pages show
HF Markets (SV) Ltd (SVG)Registered as an international business company (22747 IBC 2015). No financial license number is listed
HF Markets (UK) Ltd (UK)Authorized by the FCA (registration number 801701)
HF Markets SA (PTY) Ltd (South Africa)FSCA-authorized financial services provider (license 46632)
HF Markets (Seychelles) LtdSecurities dealer license from the Seychelles FSA (SD015)
HFM Investments Ltd (Kenya)Online forex broker authorized by the CMA (license 155)

Each entity has a different regulator and different protections. Do not apply the regulation or compensation of one entity to an account held by another.

The HFM broker page on XB also advises confirming the applicable entity and license on the registration screen.

HFM's client fund handling and compensation

  • Client funds are stated to be held separately from company funds and not used to repay creditors, even if the company defaults
  • The company is stated to maintain a USD 5 million insurance program covering its obligations to clients against risks such as fraud and error
  • The pages we checked do not describe anything like a public compensation fund
  • The entity and scope of protection that apply to a Japan-resident account should be confirmed on the registration screen and in the terms

The statements on segregation and insurance come from explanatory pages; they do not name the custodian banks or describe audits. The insurance covers the company's obligations to clients and does not make up for trading losses.

Segregation keeps client money apart from the broker's own funds; it is not a guarantee that you would get everything back if the broker failed. It is a different system from the trust safekeeping used for domestic Japanese FX.

HFM's negative balance handling and trading conditions to note

The official HFM pages state that if an account balance goes negative, it is automatically reset to zero. Check the terms for the entity and conditions that apply.

What to check before using cashback with HFM

  • Cashback is a return based on trading volume and does not guarantee the broker's safety
  • It applies to new accounts opened through an XB referral link. Cashback amounts will be published at the December launch
  • The official partner terms mention daily crediting, but we will recheck this at launch
  • Whether bonus accounts are eligible, and how they combine with other offers, follows HFM's terms
  • The name on your deposit source must match the name registered with HFM

The cashback amount is not yet confirmed. Avoid increasing your trading volume just to earn rebates, and trade lot sizes that suit your margin.

Check account types, deposits and withdrawals, and the account opening steps on the HFM broker page.
